Once i had the wish to fly,
up above the earth and yonder,
without wings it was needless to try,
The thought made me ponder.
I prayed to God all night,
Begged Him to show me the way,
Never let my dreams out of my sight,
Just clung to it night and day.
Then one day i woke up from sleep,
and in the darkness i perceived,
A ‘form’ which spoke in a voice so deep;
It said “touch these lines to your breast,
Sing, sing your heart out,
and you shall succeed in your quest.”
So i sang all the songs i knew,
And believe me they were not a few.
Suddenly i felt my soul uplifted,
Found myself light and happy,
As towards the sky i drifted.
So whenever i feel sad for things gone by,
I sing so that i may again fly.
Thinking of you
Foolish tears at times do come,
As they are wont to do,
When the thought of a long forgotten loved one,
Suddenly comes to me out of the blue.
It makes me warm and tingle,
As fond remembrances often do,
Thoughts happy and sad start to mingle,
It sure makes me happy, and that is true.
Alone in the terrace i look,
Up at the starry night,
While people throng the streets below,
I remain silent and out of sight.
As the night begins to darken,
And just a few night revelers remain,
A sigh escapes my lips,
As hold on myself begins to slacken.
Had it been up to me my friend,
I’d pack my bags and get ready to go,
But i have things to do- letters to send,
And do business with people i happen to know.
But when tomorrow does come,
The night will find me on the terrace again,
Standing in the shadow and feeling lonesome,
Foolish tears may flow without restrain.
There is not much else i can do,
Except keep thinking of you.
