There she is, sitting alone with a stern look on her wide, pulpy face. The warm, late spring breeze which held just the dab of chill could no longer comfort her. She sat there staring at a 45 storied building which used to be her only home. It took her back to the day that had changed her life forever.
She started remembering the way she ran into the balcony for her dear life when the fire had taken its hold at the kernel of her flat. She is also remembering the fright she had felt when her apparent survival turned into a panic and how her death happened in no less than 5 minutes since her panic.
She then started visualising the way she got overbalanced while leaning on the railings which were not that high and how her arms were spreaded like wings.
She is recollecting the manner when she had leaped and her body plummeted straight down on to a car.
She is now having a vague idea of how people took her into an ambulance when they had found no signs of life in her.
She is regretting the way how blood oozed out of her motionless and lifeless body.
The siren of the ambulance is still whizzing inside her head and also the flender-blender with a car which happened on thier way and how the two vehicles were taken to a nearby hospital.
This is the past that’s flashing across her head while her soul is sitting helplessly on the empty bench road……
He splashed cold water onto his face. He stood there talking to a girl in the mirror. The girl has been his aide since the last 4 months. Then he recalled his experience of how he had hit the panic button and just went into pieces when he first saw her appearance in the mirror. He also remembered the way how she started assisting him in the selection of his tie’s color or the choice of his shoes.
With each passing day, their correspondence had increased by leaps and bounds. The best part is that, he never regretted his inability of seeing his own reflection cause he loved the girl more than he loved himself. That morning was so fine except for a streak of wind here and there that the sea and sky looked all one fabric.
He washed up himself, groomed his hair and was ready to roll. Then his car had arrived and he sat in chatting with the girl in the vehicle’s mirror. People mistook him to be insane as the girl was invisible to the others and for a CEO of his own company ‘VERRE EGLOMISE’ to behave so was incredible.
No sooner had he arrived at his company, than his subordinate came scampering and notified the sudden arrangement of a press conference. The conference was not an easy sledding. There were various common questions asked regarding their company’s enlargement and also about his artistic skills and on the subject of the colorants they use on the glasses, more about how thier company was the harbinger among all the other glass painting companies.
But, there was one question which made him jump out of his skin. One of the newsmen asked him the reason for the appearance of a girls’s face uniquely in all his paintings, when observed sedulously. This made him move back in time.
That was almost 19 years ago when his mother asked him the very same question. There came no possibility of him observing the girl’s resemblance as his own eyes were indistinct and all the images were hazy. He cried his eyes out at his impotent to spot the hidden girl. But, now there was no such regret as his eyes were operated. All of a sudden, his travel to the past jogged his memory and reminded him about a painting that had gone missing.
This reminiscence made him leave all the reporters hanging and he departed in the search of the lost painting. It seemed him odds-on that the painting might had been misplaced in his old house. Within no more than 10 minutes of his visualization, he was on the spot. The old house was little more than a glorified shed even in its hay day. The windowd were gaping holes for the wind to rush in and out through and the door hung on its hinges, although now it was really just a frame. He searched every nook and corner of the house for the trace of the lost painting and lastly found his painting of a girl on the grimy loft of his room. He was dumbfound at the sight of his own painting.
It didn’t take him much time to figure out that the girl in the painting and the girl in the mirror were one and the same, except for she was a tot in the painting. This led him to confusion worse confounded about the girl in the mirror. The silence about his doubts were skeptical.
He reached his office with mind full of doubts. A filenamed ‘DONOR’ which was on his table helped him clear the air. The file was left unattended since his eye surgery. The passport sized photo in the file revealed the mystery at last. The puzzle lies in the car accident which was mentioned at hte outset of the story. The other car in the plot was his. After the flender bender, the two vehicles( one is his car and the other is the ambulance) drove to a nearby health centre in the need of the emergency assistance. The story had taken its form because of a doctor in the centre cause he was the one who transplanted the corneal tissue from the corpse of the girl to the man with the blurred vision. Henceforth, the man who is our leading personality in the story was able to see the world in the perception of the girl’s eye, and that’s probably the reason of the appearance of the same girl whenever he looks at a mirror.
