English Poem – Hey, Mary

The world can’t see you as anything but a plastic doll

A doll to be played with and then thrown to the wolves

A doll to be loved and then scorned at by the same

Hey Mary, dear Mary, you were born to be hurt.

The minute you walked into this cold winter world

You were watched by hundred pairs of predator eyes

You were created with clipped angel wings, child

Hey Mary, dear Mary, you were made to be hurt.

And when they told you to run faster than the wind

To chase the colours that painted the scarlet horizon

You didn’t know demons haunted the darkness

The more dangerous ones lurking in bright light.

You never saw what hit you, just felt the pain

You should’ve kept those two pools of blue wide open

You never saw them coming, just trust them blindly

Hey Mary, dear Mary, you were born to be hurt.

The minute you believed the wolves in sheep clothing

Your soulful innocence sinned against you

You became your own punishment, a fallen angel

Hey Mary, dear Mary, you were made to be hurt.

And when they told you to run faster than the wind

To chase the colours that painted the scarlet horizon

You didn’t know demons haunted the darkness

The more dangerous ones lurking in bright light.

Two bright lights of the same vision dimmed

Short and tragic was the life you learned to live

You ran, but fairy girl, you didn’t know it was too late

You were gone before you ran faster than the wind

You slowly faded with the colours of the horizon

You were gone, before you learned to fight back

Hey Mary, dear Mary, you were born to be hurt

Hey Mary, dear Mary, you were made to be hurt.

And when they told you to run faster than the wind

To chase the colours that painted the scarlet horizon

You didn’t know demons haunted the darkness

The more dangerous ones lurking in bright light.
