Love Poem – Hole In Your Heart
The light was dim and the wind cold
entered the hollow
through an open door
By the glint of the eye
he saw the nape of her neck
Through the door ajar
he saw her shivering
She lay shivering in a pool
of her own blood
Why do you hide? he asked
I don’t, she replied
She held her chest and
said she had a hole
in her heart
bleeding the life out of her
She had a hole
in her ever so fragile heart
How do you have a hole
in that heart of yours?
She stood strong and a little
weak in the knees
and yet had a shine in her eyes
saying this was meant to be
I thought I might find
a sliver of hope
and a flash of light
I failed
and I have a hole in my heart instead
He set all aside and
took her by the arms
He cradled her head
in his lap
Gentle and slow
he felt the contours of her wound
They were large and deep
and it was still magic how
She was alive this long
with a hole in her heart
Flowing out like a river
dressing her in a scarlet red
I will save your life, he said
How do I know that
I can trust you
with my life and the last
fragments of my heart?
Trust me, you can
and see, you will
He unbuttoned his shirt and
took her freezing hand
to feel the scar
of a long endless stitch
You have a hole in your heart too?
she asked
He nodded
And i will fix yours
with the left of my faith
a hand so still
and strings of love
How did you survive?
she asked
I lived when you breathed into me
he replied
I lived when you took your life
in your hands
and took a final breath
yet still thought of me as your savior
I stitch it everyday
with a broken faith
a hand so still
and strings now made anew by
the love that escaped
the hole in your heart
