[The Heroes – Poem on Soldiers]
Their steps were measured and unhurried
their countenance betrayed no emotions
While the sea of humanity around them wept inconsolably,
they moved forward unaffected and unperturbed.
Their gaze was fixed at the distant horizon,
They moved forward with a sense of purpose
The teary-eyed faces around them could not shake their steely resolve,
The stern gaze on their faces revealed their unwavering dedication,
To perform the job at hand with perfection
While the countless faces around them uttered a silent prayer,
The men moved forward, their heads held high with pride
With slow but determined footsteps, they marched forward
To a place far away from their homes and hearths and the green meadows that they loved
A place where death lurked in every corner
Leaving behind many grieving hearts
Lesser mortals like me will sing paeans in their memory
But the heroes are gone forever, never to return.
(Dedicated to the soldiers who lost their lives defending our Country)
