I Didn’t Know
I could hear a bell
But didn’t know,
It was you
Who rang the bell.
I could hear a step
But didn’t know,
It was you
Who made that tread.
I could hear a voice
But didn’t know,
It was you
Who made that noise.
I could feel a touch
But didn’t know,
It was you
Who touched so soft.
I could smell a thing
But didn’t know,
It was you
Who smelt so sweet.
I could see a face
But didn’t know,
It was you
Who stared at me.
I could hear a cry
But didn’t know,
It was you
Who wept for me.
I too feel a pain
That you don’t know,
I want to cry too
But it stays in me.
Let my sleepy soul
Be roused and revived,
Adieu, my dark life,
Come, light and glimmer.
Don’t cry, I’ll recall
My past with you,
And I won’t rot longer
In this ceaseless sleep.
Yes, my past gone
And so is present,
But my future unscathed
Please hand it to me.
I’ll see, hear, and laugh
And touch you soon,
And I vow, I won’t
Let you cry again.
**
Moments of Joy
I love the morning sun
Dancing in my room,
The leaves of my tree
Joining in that ball.
Is it a foxtrot or a waltz?
Or a tango or a salsa?
Why do I need to know
As I enjoy in raptures?
I see the dew drops
Round a clothes line
Adorning a plain neck
With a pearl strand.
I love the sudden cloud
Not so dark though,
Just dropping a few drops
Every now and then.
Oh! That fresh scent
Of the first rain,
How I treasure it
In my mind’s den.
My moments of joy
A spur to my life,
I smell my roses,
And cherish them.
