The lady and wolf

Published by Shreshtha04 in category Childhood and Kids with tag children | forest | old lady

Once upon a time, there lived a woman who longed for a child.

One day she was sitting in the veranda of the small hut. She saw an old man approaching her. “Can I have a glass of water?” he asked.

“Of course” she replied and went inside to fetch a glass of water from the pot. She returned and gave the old man the glass of water. He smiled and imbibed hastily. He noticed emptiness in the lady’s eyes.

“Don’t have a daughter or a son? “ he asked.

“No”, said the old lady with heaviness in the voice.

“Go to the mountains in the west. You have to find the largest flower up there. You shall bear a baby in no time.”

Hence,The lady started her journey to the west. She traced alongside the river. It was a beautiful path, full of green trees and lush herbs. The fresh air filled her tired body and rejuvenated the soul. She continued to walk down the path with little rest at night.

The next day as she continued her journey, she sensed someone was following her. She was aware of the presence of wild animals in the delta. Fearfully she turned to her back and saw a wolf. She knew wolves are pack animals. Wolves hunt in a pack. The lady started counting her last breaths. To her surprise, the wolf remained immobile. He stared deep into the lady’s eyes; She noticed pain in them.

“Where are your parents?” asked the lady.

“I am lost, please help me find my parents” he cried.

Soon they started searching for his parents in all directions. They could not find them. For many days they continued their search, all attempts prove frugal. Meanwhile, the lady and the wolf’s bond grew stronger. The wolf protected the old lady from many fatal attacks from other wild animals. The lady comforted him whenever he missed his family.

After searching tirelessly for days the old lady confronted the wolf.

“I have no child. I wanted a baby. God has sent you as my child. I want you to come to my home and live like my progeny”
The wolf happily accepted her offer and went with the lady to her town . He also loved her. She was his mother.
