Once upon a time there was a forest which was ruled ideally by a king ‘The Lion’. His reputation spread to the other kingdoms of the forest. There was a vacancy for minister’s post in his kingdom. In order to fill the post, the Lion announces a competition.
The lion also declared the commencement of the competition and the message being sent to the other kingdoms of the forest.
Having learnt about the minister’s post, a rabbit from other forest rushed to her friend, ‘The Fox’.
“Dear friend! In the neighboring kingdom, competitions are going to be held by coming Friday for the post of minister. No one can compete with you in this regard to the level of your knowledge. If you leave two days earlier to the competition, definitely you will be crowning the minister of the kingdom” bragged the rabbit.
The fox equipped to leave for the competition. His long lasting desire to become a minister is going to fulfill shortly. The fox was over zealous with happiness without achieving it and lost in his thoughts.
With fictitious illusion the fox was anticipating that he has become the minister of a forest and started giving the much wanted information to the king.
In reality the foolish fox, left only one day before to reach the kingdom.
On his way to the neighboring forest, in the midst of the forest near a field there was a radish field with ripen radishes to eat. No sooner the fox felt hungry than he dug the field and ate the radishes to his content.
Later when he resumed his journey, the fox found a lake full of pure water. Whilst it is not necessary, the water attracted the fox to have a bath.
Quickly he took a dip in the lake and spent for a long time. In a while, the fox encountered a group of crabs. They are mouth watering. Though the tummy was full, the fox created space for the crabs in the stomach.
With heavily loaded belly the fox once again recommenced the journey. He could not walk at great speed as earlier. He could not even step ahead properly. Feeling very drowsy the fox sat under a banyan tree and the drowse deepened into a heavy sleep.
When the fox awoken, sensed the burning sensation of heat. He realized how he fell into a deep sleep. Very immediately he started running and reached the place of competition. But by the time the fox reached the place, the competitions were held and a new minister was selected.
The disappointed fox went to meet the king. The lion was very ferocious and so the fox was frightened by the appearance of the great beast. However, he gathered all his strength and explained what has happened during his journey and requested the Lion to give him one more opportunity.
The dignified king smoothly rejected the fox saying, “Hello, Mr. Fox. The minister’s post is very prestigious. I wonder, when you couldn’t attend the competition on time, how could you give me good advice in ruling the kingdom?”
When nothing worked out, the thwarted fox returned to his forest.
Moral: Control over food and sleep can drive you to reach your goal.
