Name Bigger than Person – A Short Story From Student Life
From my college diary:
In final year of our college we were renowned students, not for our activities in academics but for other notorious activities. We were a proud group of 13 friends that was followed by around hundreds other students who were always ready to do whatever we decided. We called our proud group as BABBAR BANARAS (or BB Pride), whereas to others as BAD BOYS. So generally no one dared to cross our way or to speak or do anything against us.
One day I saw our beloved senior Mr. Lion (we named him LION as reverse of his room no. NO17; furthermore he was at No. 1 in our BB pride) sitting in very sad mood at our ADDA (a small restaurant where we often meet). When we asked he told to our surprise “It’s very hurting friends, nobody recognizes me”
and he explained…
… …Today at evening I was passing by cricket ground where our college team was practicing. I asked them if I could practice bat for two balls only. Initially they denied but after requesting few times the captain agreed saying two balls only and handed over bat. I happily hold the bat and got ready to face ball. First ball I hit forcefully for nothing. The ball went to wicketkeeper. Next ball… same result. I was frustrated and suddenly the captain grabbed the bat and asked me to leave as I already played two balls. I was stunned. I hold the bat strongly and insisted to play as I was still not out. The captain refused strictly and tried to grab back the bat; other players also surrounded me and asked to leave. Again I insisted but they kept snatching bat forcefully from me.
Enough. I got angry and asked them loudly, “Don’t you boys know me, who am I” and to my surprise they replied even more loudly, “NO, AND BETTER YOU LEAVE.”
“My name is Lion !!!”
All of sudden they became dumbfounded and captain said, giving me the whole stuff (bat, ball, gloves and every damn things…), “Sorry Sir, please play as long as you want”. And within minutes before I say something they escaped leaving me all alone in the ground… …
After a pause I asked again “But why are you gloomy?”
“my LION name is more powerful than ME as a person”, he replied with a grin.
