We received many emails asking criteria for SPIXer selection. Please note that there is no criteria from our side and also we do not review or evaluate stories for SPIXer award. We select most popular story among stories published in last one month, and reward as SPIXer. Although we believe that literary good story will become popular, creating a wider reader base will help making story popular in a short time. Therefore to make your story popular and increase the chance of winning SPIXer, share link of your stories with your friends and others who would be interested in reading your stories. More your share the link on various and number of “relevant” websites, better the chance to make your story popular by widening the reader base. (DO NOT SPAM BY SHARING YOUR LINKS ON IRRELEVANT WEBSITES OR FORUMS – this will reduce your story popularity)
If you have any question or doubt, please feel free to reply to this forum.
August 20, 2012 at 11:07 pm #18041fakinglyrealParticipantHi,
I do understand that literary good story becomes very popular on its own. However if that popularity is gauged by the no of reads, then it is not the right measure as higher reads can easily be achieved through social media today. Now the reason why i am raising this point is that some of the SPixers were really mundane, i mean not even amateurish but they had pretty high no of reads. On the other hand there are stories which are well written but do not have such high no of reads.
In my opinion the SPixer award should be given based on the weighted average of a number of parameters in which the no of reads should not certainly be given the highest priority ( as this can be easily manipulated.. Please read some of the SPixers in recent times from a neutral point of view and you will realize that by this criteria you are actually lowering the quality of work.) I am an avid reader of blogs and stories and i am really sorry to say that some of the stories awarded prizes here are pretty pathetic and yet have got the highest ratings.
So please have a re-look at the criteria if you are serious on promoting good literary works.
August 21, 2012 at 6:31 pm #18098YourStoryClubKeymaster@fakinglyreal: As explained, we do reward literary superior contents by Story of the month, best writer schemes and various competitions. Such rewards are solely based on key elements of short story or competition criteria and no where related to number of reads. Stories selected in such categories are critically and technically evaluated by our qualified editors.
In addition, we also reward popular stories by SPIXer and popular writer reward schemes. In these cateogies, our editors do not review or evaluate stories critically or technically.
Yes you are right. There are number of parameters to decide popularity. Please note that number of read is just one of them and not given highest weight. We consider many other parameters most prominently unique visits along with average time spent, bounce rate, referrals etc. However, it is quite possible that aggressively sharing the link of stories among various readers and forums would increase the popularity.
Hope it explains. Please feel free to comment/suggest..
August 23, 2012 at 4:45 pm #18308ipsa aroraParticipantWhat i have noticed is that there is a lot of repetition in the names of the writers whose stories get spixed. More number of reads surely does not guarantee a good story and repeating names as the one spixed, would not give a chance to the newbies.
August 23, 2012 at 4:52 pm #18310YourStoryClubKeymaster@ipsa arora: SPIXer is chosen based on popularity. And yes, new writer may have to aggressively share her stories with wider reader base to make herself popular.
And, as explained earlier, we do have many other categories such as various competitions, Story of the Month and Best Writer schemes to reward literary good stories.
September 1, 2012 at 12:07 pm #19332YourStoryClubKeymasterWhat will reduce popularity or SPIX:
(1) Sharing links on “irrelevant” websites or forums – It is considered spamming and may result in reduced ranking of your story by most search engines including our algorithm
(2) Poor ratio of unique reads to overall reads. Our algorithm heavily rewards those pages that have very high unique reads.
(3) Multiple comments from same computer or network but with different or fake email ids.
(4) Duplication of the content on personal blog or other websites
(5) Abnormal deviation (+ and – both) of duration of visitor from average time needed to read a story of that size
(6) High bounce rate
October 16, 2012 at 11:05 pm #24295VinayMemberHello,
I am a fresher on this site. I have just sent a story written by me for review. If published, I plan to promote it by posting link on my facebook and Twitter accounts to increase my reader base. I have some questions:
1. How would I come to know that my story has been published?
2. Is my promoting strategy considered unethical by this site and would it reduce the popularity?
3. As a fresher, do I need to take care of anything else in order to remain eligible for the reward?
Thanks,
Vinay.
October 17, 2012 at 5:57 pm #24378YourStoryClubKeymasterHello Vinay, please find below answers:
(1) When your story is published or otherwise, you would get email notification from us.
(2) No. It is fully acceptable and encouraged. You may also share link to other forums/websites related to creative writing, short stories, literature, readers, and writers. Sharing link increases popularity. However we discourage sharing links at irrelevant sites or with uninterested readers. In summary link should not be seen as spam but useful to who you share with.
(3) Just be passionate writer. If we observe any deviation we shall bring to your kind notice.
May 31, 2013 at 12:28 pm #44765Shiqran SharfuddinParticipantRespected Editor,
I’ve been started writing stories for this club. Since, I’m new to this club, will it take time to get my stories popularized. Please, do kindly send me the details for the reward…Thanking you,
S. S. Manegar.May 31, 2013 at 10:21 pm #44861YourStoryClubKeymasterDear S. S. Manegar, yes it may take a while for your stories to become popular. To expedite it, you should share your stories (link of your stories) with others who would be interested to read them. You may share the link on social network such as facebook, linkedin, twitter etc or on sites and blogs related to stories and story writers. DO NOT share links to unrelated site or blog. Doing so may have adverse effect and would be treated as spamming which is against our terms of service. Best wishes.
August 7, 2013 at 8:42 pm #55314abhchkParticipanthi! maybe a bit unrelated.. but is there a lower word limit for the stories?
August 7, 2013 at 8:54 pm #55317YourStoryClubKeymasterDear abhchk, the content should be of minimum 300 words.
August 26, 2013 at 1:38 pm #58567K V Sai KrishnaParticipantHi,
I am new to this site. I have few questions.
1. Why do you consider number of reads as criteria for reward?
a) How will you know that a reader has read the story/poem?
b) The reader may not actually read poem. One may just scroll up and down for few minutes.
c) Also, there is a chance that the story page left opened for certain amount of time?
Most of times, these two will happen. This will increase number of reads unnecessarily.2. Why do you not consider reads from same network?
a) In an office, most of the users share a common private network. Do you ignore that reads?
This will decrease number of reads unnecessarily.Number of reads is absolutely an aberration in deciding rewards.
3. Why don’t you consider the rating of story/poem?
a) The present rating stars is not recognizable easily as we go through the story reading. Readers stop at the end usually. There are no ratings for many stories.
b) With conditions like, one rating per one IP address and mac address, one rating per one email id etc. readers cannot fool you. You can design and put conditions like that. There will be no fuss in it. I can say very confidently that, If you take number of reads into consideration for rewarding a story, there are number of ways to fool you to increase number of reads.August 28, 2013 at 7:03 pm #58885YourStoryClubKeymaster@K V Sai Krishna: (i)Number of reads is not the only criteria. (ii)We consider content to be more popular if it is read across the geography (iii)Our rating allows only one rating from an IP in a day.
September 5, 2013 at 9:20 pm #60079AsadParticipantHello. Recently I’d submitted my story and I ve not received any notification yet. How long do I have to wait for it????
