Short Story: “Coping With Infinity” by krishnamoorty
Dear Writer, please find below our objective review comment based on five key elements of short stories:
Character: The main character who narrates this story is visible quite late and thus the character development could not be very effective. Nonetheless there was one main character that is ideal for short story.
Setting: Setting was very detail. Although it was very poetic using appropriate adjectives and metaphors, too detail setting may not be meant for short stories. Half of the story was portraying the ranch house. Indeed, it was as lively as watching a film. Nonetheless it was felt to be overdosed. One may confusedly consider the house as main character.
Plot: Detail setting perhaps negated the powerful start and meaningful plot. Theme could not be made clear earlier and thus it created really tough to make a focused plot. Mentioning of so many celebrities in a short story perhaps is too much to keep plot tightly with theme.
Conflict: Narration was too descriptive about setting to bring any clear conflict. However loneliness of an old person in a sophisticated house offered a bit of it.
Theme: Theme could not come clearly in early part of the story and thus other elements were left hanging. In middle of the story when theme was bit clearer, detail setting and many topics could not focus the plot properly.
Overall setting was very loud in this story. Typically such setting is justified in novel but may not be in short story. It would be interesting to read a horror or psychological thriller written with this style.
Having said the above, we strongly believe that story is an art and every art is invaluable – there is nothing good or bad as art is beyond boundaries of these adjectives. Therefore the creator is the best person to decide whether the creation meets her expectation. We like your story in total and our comments are just objective comparison with the patterns we observed in most liked short stories.
