Dear Writer, please find below our objective review comment based on five key elements of short stories:
Character: Story has two main human characters along with fruit trees. Character of fruit trees is developed well to some extent. Even sisters’ characterization is good. Nonetheless it is somewhat confusing to develop more characters in a short story.
Setting: Very vivid and limited to one time frame – ideal for short story. Good approach.
Plot: Very good and interesting start. Equally good end is. However it would be better to narrate story by participating character’s point of view (POV) for example either by one of sisters or even by tree. It could have been narrated even by the guest who was served mango, as tree’s or sister’s POV could be biased and would have not been suitable for making their fun. Please select a narrator who can effectively tell story using her/his/its POV.
Conflict: Conflict is very well presented in beginning and carried over with same intensity. It is heighten when needed. Overall very good presentation.
Theme: Theme is pun intended but clearly came out only in third paragraph. No critical comment; however, it could be hinted at very first paragraph or first line itself.
Overall good story and good writing. The theme can be perceived anywhere between hilarious story and children story with moral lesson. We recommend to tightly tying character, settings, plot and conflict to one and only one theme or subject matter.
Having said the above, we strongly believe that story is an art and every art is invaluable – there is nothing good or bad as art is beyond boundaries of these adjectives. Therefore the creator is the best person to decide whether the creation meets her expectation. We like your story in total and our comments are just objective comparison with the patterns we observed in most liked short stories.
