Short Story: “HE WAS GENTLEMAN WITH UNUSUAL TRAITS” by hdas
Dear Writer, please find below our objective review comment based on five key elements of short stories:
Character: Story has one main character and characterization was done nicely along with progression of the story. This is very good for short story.
Setting: Setting was done poetically describing surroundings in detail. It was also limited to a short time frame. Overall it is good setting.
Plot: First paragraph (opening) is good and provides needed start for remembrance theme. Story ends with surprise. Although ending with surprise is a very good technique, in story it is not very well supported by conflict or climax. Narrator was chosen appropriately.
Conflict: There is hardly any conflict. Theme is remembrance, and adding one unexpected incident towards end would have given tangible support to other elements that are nicely articulated in this story.
Theme: Theme is very clear. Setting, character, and plot support theme. This is very good.
Overall except conflict, other elements have strongly been portrayed. Climax towards the end was seemingly missing. We recommend you to attempt writing a suspense or thriller short story to practice creating conflict more loudly and tangibly. Keep writing and we would love to review and provide you feedback.
Having said the above, we strongly believe that story is an art and every art is invaluable – there is nothing good or bad as art is beyond boundaries of these adjectives. Therefore the creator is the best person to decide whether the creation meets her expectation. We like your story in total and our comments are just objective comparison with the patterns we observed in most liked short stories.
