Dear Writer, please find below our objective review comment based on five key elements of short stories:
Character: Very good character development using dialogues. However too many characters would have been avoided especially in short stories. Keeping wife as main characters, whole story could be narrated as dialogues between husband and Mayank.
Setting: Very vivid and limited to two timeframe. Good approach. We recommend limiting to one timeframe only. Reminiscence would have been limited to very small portion and should be better covered in main timeframe – in this case, dialogues between husband and Mayank during drink. Too much detail setting in flashback made story lengthy.
Plot: Very good and interesting start. Equally good end is. Please select appropriate narrator to present story in his/her point of view (POV).
Conflict: Conflict was presented in very beginning and very well carried over until end. Resolution at climax was also executed very well.
Theme: Theme can be easily related by many readers. Routine issue and tension between husband and wife though they love each other is clear in story. However be very stingy in character development and drawing settings. If they are not needed, we strongly recommend, avoid them. During trekking, bringing more characters defocused from theme by detailing more on friends and friends’ talk.
Having said the above, we strongly believe that story is an art and every art is invaluable – there is nothing good or bad as art is beyond boundaries of these adjectives. Therefore the creator is the best person to decide whether the creation meets her expectation. We like your story in total and our comments are just objective comparison with the patterns we observed in most liked short stories.
