Short Story: “It’s Good To Watch TV” by krishnamoorty

Dear Writer, please find below our objective review comment based on five key elements of short stories:

Character: Story has one main character husband supported by wife and few others. Characterization was nicely done mainly using television object. Characterization was also closely tied with theme that was hilariously portraying middleclass Indian family. Even setting was supporting characterization. Character development in this story was unparallel – a unique and excellent style for short story.

Setting: Setting was very live. It was explained in detail using metaphors and examples. Shelf was so vividly explained that reader would simply live the story and not just read it. Same detail was progressed until end – gulf war, burning train, reflection of stove burner in TV, etc. Appropriate adjectives and metaphors made it possible to portray such a detailed setting in a short story.

Plot: Good use of humour throughout the story. Although “evolution” of Television in beginning was seemingly in high proportion to overall plot, it was interesting and enjoyable to read. If this story is to be rewritten, perhaps more focus on contemporary programs and their effects on husband and wife relation should be done. Good selection of narrator and style of narration. Overall it was a very impressive hilarious story.

Conflict: There was unpredicted climax that ended with funny message. Although it was good to see such climax in hilarious short story, conflicts could not be brought from beginning.

Theme: Theme is very clear. Setting, character, and plot supported theme. This is very good.

Having said the above, we strongly believe that story is an art and every art is invaluable – there is nothing good or bad as art is beyond boundaries of these adjectives. Therefore the creator is the best person to decide whether the creation meets her expectation. We like your story in total and our comments are just objective comparison with the patterns we observed in most liked short stories.
