I had returned to Hokkaido for my destiny and the love of my life. I got married with Aiko within couple of months and started living in the house built by Jako
I could see myself and Aiko in the reflection of my memory. The sakura trees had shed it’s flowers but some trees still had few left. I came by the village entrance
After getting grandpa’s approval I started preparing myself for returning to Hokkaido. Grandma and aunt Shirley had been with me all this time
Things were not like before at grandpa’s place. All these years I had looked up to this man in my life and now am standing on the other side having no feelings towards him
To kill my loneliness I took off to the mountains on horse back. I would stay there till dusk everyday and only return home for supper, bath and sleep.
My life had changed so radically in a short period of time that sometimes I wonder was it for real. One moment I was behind the enemy lines
I woke up early next day and was ready to set out for the journey home. Sgt. Hayden was also ready waiting by his jeep. He was the last person on earth I would like to share a ride
April 22nd, 1946 I boarded the ship bound for home. Am here with fellow countrymen who are fortunate to be alive now, singing and merry making for this opportunity
Jako was quite impressed with my recent teaching of his children. For sure he knows that they know more than him now. He asked me if I could teach as well.
Now it was sure that we are not leaving like rest of the villagers. As time ticked we could see the village emptying leaving nothing just the ghosts of life behind.
